Indiana became the 19th state in 1816. Its famous residents include Abraham Lincoln, James Dean, and David Letterman. The first train robbery in the US occurred in Indiana on October 6, 1866, when the Reno Brothers gang stopped a train in Jackson County and stole $13,000. Indiana is home to the Speedway, the world’s largest sports arena. Its motto is “Crossroads of America.”
